Applicants
to teach English in Korea
must:
- Hold a minimum of a Bachelor's
degree from an accredited
university.
- Be a citizen from a country
where the primary language
is English.
- Canadian citizens
from the Quebec Province
and countries where
English is a co-official
language and/or applicants
from non-English language
backgrounds whose first
language is not English
must have been taught
in English-language
schools from junior
high school to the university
level.
- Ethnic Korean applicants
with foreign citizenships
or legal residencies
must have been taught
in English-language
schools from junior
high school to the university
level and have lived
abroad for a minimum
of 10 years. (If you
are a male citizen of
the Republic of Korea
under the age of 35,
you must have either
completed mandatory
military service or
have received an official
waiver.)
- Be fluent and proficient
in the English language
grammar and structure and
be able to
communicate fluently with
clear and distinct pronunciation.
- Be mentally and physically
capable of performing the
specified responsibilities
and
duties. Must also have the
ability and willingness
to adapt to Korean culture
and living.
- Meet the criteria of eligibility
for the E2 (work) visa set
forth by the Korean Immigration
Authority (see below).

The process differs depending
on whether you will be employed
to teach in Korea by a private
or public school, but it usually
takes 10–20 business
days. You are responsible
for the cost of producing
the documents listed below
and sending these documents
to us.
- University degree (Notarized
degrees are also accepted.
However, you will need to
have it officially notarized
by the Korean Consulate
in your region. We advise
sending your original degree
when possible, as some schools
will not pay for your airfare
up front if you send a notarized
copy.)
- Two sets of officially
sealed transcripts (The
official University seal
must be stamped across the
envelope seal. If it is
somewhere else on the envelope,
it will not be accepted.)
- Signed and dated employment
contract
- Three passport photos
(Photos must be in color
and date stamped if possible—delete
the red.)
- Photocopy of your passport
(photo page and profile
page)
- Criminal Background Check
and Apostille (Your recruiter
will give you specific instructions
on obtaining this.)
